Joleigh Honey, an Author of Open Up Mathematics, Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

We are thrilled to announce that Joleigh Honey, a prominent figure in mathematics education and an author of Open Up High School Mathematics has been honored with the Utah Council of Teachers of Mathematics Don Clark Award Lifetime Achievement award. This prestigious accolade recognizes her remarkable contributions to the field of mathematics education spanning 30 years.

Joleigh Honey is an author and consultant and is in her 30th year as a mathematics educator. She is the Immediate Past-President of the Association of State Supervisors of Mathematics (ASSM), serves on the Executive Committee of the Conference Board for Mathematical Sciences (CBMS), and is a current director-at-large of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. 
 
Joleigh Honey is an author of Open Up Resources High School Math, a consultant for the Launch Years Initiative through the Dana Center, the author of Transform Your Math Class Using Asset-based Perspectives (2024), and serves on the National STEM Identity work group. Over the years, she taught secondary math in Granite and Jordan School Districts and was a math specialist and coach in Jordan (which is now Jordan and Canyons) and Salt Lake District. She became the K12 Supervisor in Salt Lake School District then the  PK–12 STEM Coordinator and Mathematics Equity Specialist for the state of Utah. Joleigh appreciates the amazing math educators in Utah and across the nation who have made great impact in math education. 
 
Joleigh has worked with teachers, specialists, and state supervisors across the country. She has designed and led professional learning focusing on equity, student engagement, and ensuring all students, including students with disabilities, have access to and success with meaningful course level content.  She is an active member of and regular presenter for the Association of State Supervisors of Mathematics, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and NCSM: Leadership in Mathematics Education.Joleigh said, “I am honored to be awarded the 2024 Don Clark Lifetime Achievement Award by the Utah Council of Teachers of Mathematics (UCTM). This recognition from my Utah family means a lot to me.”
As an author of Open Up High School Mathematics, Joleigh has played a pivotal role in developing curriculum materials that engage students and promote deep understanding of mathematical concepts. Her dedication to creating inclusive and accessible resources has had a profound impact on classrooms across the country, making mathematics education more meaningful and enjoyable for students of all backgrounds.
